Educational Assessment
What is an Educational Assessment?
Leap Street’s Educational Assessment is an achievement test that measures how an individual is performing in areas of academic school work.
What does it tell us?
Our assessments provide a summary of function across the broad areas of reading, math, written language, and oral language, as well as specific sub-skills in each, including:
Reading: word reading and recognition, decoding, word reading efficiency, reading fluency (accuracy and rate), reading comprehension and recall
Writing: spelling, writing fluency, sentence composition, essay composition, use of grammar and punctuation, editing
Mathematics: maths calculation and fluency, applied problem-solving
Oral language: receptive and expressive language
How does it help?
At Leap Street, we use the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Third Edition for Preschool-Yr12 (WIAT-III) – a powerful clinical tool that assists with:
Identifying: the academic strengths and weaknesses of a student
Designing: learning plans or other relevant interventions
Informing: decisions regarding the requirement of further assessment, such as a Cognitive or Intellectual assessment which, when used in conjunction with an Educational Assessment can determine the eligibility for educational services, educational placement, or a diagnosis of a specific learning disability (including dyslexia, dysgraphia and dyscalculia).
The Educational Assessment process
-
In this session, comprehensive background information is gathered including developmental history, medical issues, academic issues (where applicable), social/family relationships and any other issues or concerns. This is to gain a holistic view of the child to inform interpretation and recommendations as appropriate. During this consultation Charlotte will discuss and make recommendations as to whether an Educational Assessment is appropriate for your child at this time and discuss alternatives with you, so that you can make an informed decision.
-
This will depend on the ability and willingness of the participant
-
The assessment will be scored and interpreted against standardised norms.
-
The background information, behavioural observations during testing, test results and consequent interpretations will be combined into a comprehensive report that includes relevant recommendations as appropriate.
-
In this session, we will discuss the outcomes of the assessment and relevant recommendations for school or home. If necessary, support will be provided in this session to navigate further assessment, as well as how to advocate for the child at school.
How much does it cost?
The cost of an Educational Assessment is $850.
If further consultation is required, the cost of a follow-up consultation is $90 for a 30-minute consultation.
Evidence-based one-on-one intervention for students with a Specific Learning Difficulty (or suspected SLD) is $180 per hour.
